EVA Air: My New Ride to Asia

EVA Air 777-300

I recently flew my first-ever return flight in EVA Air’s Elite (Premium Economy) cabin and had a fantastic experience. Seriously, I think I’ve found my new favourite ride from YYZ to Asia and back.

For the past five years the girlfriend and I have been making our annual trek to Hong Kong exclusively on Cathay Pacific—mostly because of the Marco Polo Gold status via AMEX Platinum, a perk which was finally removed from my account last summer. But that’s not the only reason we wanted to move on from Cathay; on our last CX flight (also in PE) my SO’s IFE screen wouldn’t turn off and had to be taped up with cardboard, and on the flight before that she had hot water spilled on her while taking delivery of an in-flight instant noodle soup.

Novotel Hong Kong Century: More Sensible Than Sexy

Novotel Century Executive Room

The Novotel Century Hong Kong is strategically located for the visitor to Hong Kong. A five-minute walk to the west brings you to the Wan Chai MTR station. Surrendering to a Hotel Chain

The way I see it, the smart travel dollar does triple duty, rewarding you not once, not twice, but thrice.

Take, for example, last week’s online purchase of Cathay Pacific tickets using my RBC-Cathay co-branded VISA: (1) I get the tickets (duh), (2) I earn Asia Miles travelling on said tickets and, critically, (3) I earn double the Asia Miles on the purchase thanks the co-branded credit card. It’s a holy trinity of travel rewards.

So now we come to hotels…
