September in Sri Lanka with Experientially

Apparently TripAdvisor doesn’t yet allow reviews of tour operators—which is a real shame, because if you were to book a holiday to somewhere like Sri Lanka you could really benefit from the expertise of someone who knows their way around. Hotels are pretty easy to find and book, of course, but while you could technically use any one stop to arrange for transport to the next, why not let someone else take care of that for you?

That’s exactly what we did for our inaugural visit to the island, with a company called Experientially. Full disclosure: we made our initial contact with the owner through a family connection, but as far as I know no special consideration was given to us.

Experientially laid a one-two punch on our 10-day stay in Sri Lanka that knocked us off our feet… in a good way!

A Troubling Encounter with Lions

I came away from Safari Adventures’ Walk with Lions Encounter with decidedly mixed feelings. I thought I had read somewhere on the TripAdvisor forums for Mauritius that the animals were doped up so as not to attack visitors; while the pair of lions we walked with were indeed uncharacteristically lethargic, I can’t say whether or not this is true. What I can say is that I was more than a bit troubled by the very visible wounds on these otherwise majestic creatures—and looking at these photos again makes me regret doing the encounter in the first place.

In Praise of the Hong Kong Tourist SIM

It’s a matter of fact that since I’ve been a regular contributor to Howard Forums I’ve travelled to Hong Kong, Malaysia, the USA, Australia, Taipei and Mauritius. And as you’d probably guess, I’ve done my fair share of travelling before that. It’s my jam.

But I’m not here today to brag (honest!), only to reiterate that the best prepaid SIM I’ve ever had the pleasure of using in any foreign country is the Discover Hong Kong Tourist SIM Card. Just pop it in your phone, reboot and you’re done.

If only the last two SIMs I had to use were as easy to set up as this…
